Tips For Maintaining Healthy Skin During Lockdown
Natural glow is the very first indicator of healthy skin. Almost all women across the globe agree that having flawless and glowing skin is their no.1 dream. A lot of factors such as stressful lifestyle, unhealthy diet, pollution, sun, smoking, drinking alcohol etc. act as major blockways in our journey to achieve clear skin. If you treat this lockdown period as a blessing in disguise then you can use this time to develop healthy habits that can help you achieve your skin goals while you stay home safe. Below are some tips on using simple natural ingredients and developing healthy habits that will not only give you clear skin but will also keep your mind and body healthy.
Use natural ingredients to pamper your skin
Here is an easy home remedy that you can use once a week when there is no access to the salon. All of us know Honey has amazing health benefits when consumed. It also makes skin glow when applied as a mask.
FOR DRY SKIN
- Cleanse your face with a cleanser or face wash.
- ½ full ripen Banana(blended) + 1 Teaspoon yoghurt + 2 Teaspoon Honey. Take this mixture, apply it on the face and massage it for 5 minutes using circular motions, zig-zag strokes and upward rubbing movements.
- Leave it for 10 – 15 minutes as a mask and rinse it with cold water.
- Bananas are very hydrating to dry skin and honey is a bleaching agent.
- Cleanse your face with the cleanser or face wash.
- Soak ½ cup ground oats in warm water for one hour to form a paste. Mix it with one tablespoon of honey and massage it into your face for about 3 minutes using circular motions, zig-zag strokes and upward rubbing movements.
- Rinse it with warm water after 5 minutes.
- Honey also has antibacterial properties and regular use will clear up your skin.
- Drink a minimum of two litres of plain water everyday. Water helps to flush out toxins from your body and hydrates your body keeping your skin supple. Fill up two 1litre water bottles and drink from them throughout the day. Any additional liquid intake can be in the form of buttermilk, aam panna or lemon juice (without added sugar, or you can substitute sugar with jaggery powder or honey).
- Eat at least a minimum of two types of seasonal fruit everyday. Rather than drinking fruit juices, try to eat fruits. The vitamins and fiber in solid fruits will help maintain good gut health which is essential for clear skin.
- Cut down drastically on sugary foods and beverages (especially any processed food that has added sugars). Sugars are addictive, making you consume more and thereby causing weight gain, hormonal imbalances, and inflammation in your body. This can in turn cause breakouts.
- Exercise at least for a minimum of 30-40 minutes everyday- could be simple sit ups, skipping, squats or even household work. Perspiration during exercise will clear blockages in pores. Exercise also improves blood circulation and releases endorphins- the happy hormones which soothe your mind and body making you positive, active and energetic. A nice morning exercise routine will activate your metabolism helping you maintain a good metabolic rate throughout the day. You will then enjoy healthy skin as a side benefit.
- Sleep for 8-9 hours everyday. Sleep deprivation is the major contributor to a host of health and skin problems. Avoid phones and TV at least 2 hours before sleep time. Instead read a book or listen to soothing music.
- Sleep on a fresh pillow cover every night. If you cannot change the cover frequently then place a fresh soft towel on the pillow and change it every night. Pillow covers absorb the sebum/oil from the face and harbour dust, dead skin cells and bacteria and can cause breakouts.
